Presenting color in new ways has always been a challenge relished by West Coast artists. From Wayne Thiebaud's electric edges to Elmer Bischoff's hyper-technicolor landscapes and David Park's neo-Fauvist visages, to the psychedelic era's rainbow-splashed paisley patterns, shying away from bold experimentation has never been part of the region's ethos.

And so the tradition, as it were, of bucking traditions continues to this day. In this exhibition, Nora van den Berg's vegetative compositions are anything but the brown and green of real life plants; Leon Philips' loops and swirls swim past, leaving candy-colored contrails in their wake; Robert Szot stitches together brilliant scraps of exuberant pigment; A glass relief by Whitney Vosburgh weaves together a carnival of brightly colored bucatini; Ronnie Genotti floods the senses with a murmuration of neo-Pointillist dynamism; and Don Hershman puts a delightfully unsubtle point on it all with a supersaturated geometric party.

Bold is beautiful. Bright is right. This is a MondoChromatic fever dream that we hope we never awake from.
